Breakaway Magazine
CRAFTING THE CHICAGO WOLVES GAMEDAY MAGAZINE, MY MINI ESPN
designer / creative director / consultant
Project Background:
The Chicago Wolves wanted to reinvent the gameday program experience, creating additional revenue models and opportunities for sponsorship. Initially offering 15 issues the first season, a new issue for each of the Saturday home games, and eventually settling to 5 issues per season, the Breakaway Magazine has entertained and informed fans for more than 10 seasons.
Results:
Since it’s inception, I have been creating and extending the life and personality of some of the Wolves most beloved fan favorites beyond the ice. Discovering what makes the player or coach human and unleashing the magic of that story through creative, I have always treated Breakaway Magazine as my “mini ESPN”. When working full-time for the Chicago Wolves, I would coordinate and direct creative direction and photo shoots alongside the renowned, Emmy-winning photographer, Ross Dettman.
Now in a consulting role, I am still responsible for each of the in-depth features brought to Wolves fans throughout the season, and still get to feel the magic of designing for sport.
